Supercilious
Quintessentially alienated kick-about delinquent, Elmo, scrubs fish tanks at an aquarium, rubbing the wrong way on doltish townsfolk. In this macrocosm, a stolen octopus living in his bathtub becomes increasingly anthropomorphized and soon dominates Elmo’s household. The monster controls the TV remote, prohibits the resting of elbows on dinner tables, and even makes a move on Elmo’s girlfriend. Complicating matters further, a career rapist, identical to Elmo like a lost twin, begins stalking the community. In a Lynchian style mudslide, Elmo gets his shot at redemption, discovering he can grant people pontifical intellect by strangling them with his father’s trouser belt. If not an outright criminal, then a self-righteous asshole, he’s not remotely above using the trick for his own gain.
